Time to Face Fall!

Is your skin ready for Fall? While a simple skincare routine works year-round, the weather does change how your skin will look and feel if you don’t make a few simple tweaks as the seasons change. As we transition from summer and heat to cooler temps in the fall, it’s time to look at your current skincare routine and make some small changes so your skin stays feeling and looking good in the colder months.

What does Fall mean for your skin?

As temperatures and humidity levels drop, your skin is more prone to dryness (and if it’s really cold, to chapping). This is especially true if you’re regularly training in the gym, getting hot and sweaty, then hitting the chilly air outside. This dryness can also have the opposite effect of making your skin more breakout prone, if you tend towards oily skin.

Lighten your touch when washing your face

As the temperatures cool, you won’t stay as sweaty for as long, which should mean some minor changes in how you wash your face. If you’ve been using a cloth or loofah, skip that in favor of just your hands while lathering up. Your hands versus a rough cloth will be more gentle on your skin. You should still cleanse in the morning or after your workout and again at night, though—The American Boxer’s K.O. Purifying Cleanser has a replenishing formula that works well in all seasons.

Check your temp

If your skin feels tight after cleansing, you may want to actually drop the temperature of your water. That’s right: Even though it’s tempting to increase the temperature in your shower as it gets chilly out, that hot water isn’t good for your skin. It can cause you to end up tighter and dryer as a result, so try to at least wash your face in lukewarm or cool water, even if you refuse to give up your steaming hot shower.

Moisturize religiously

Admit it: there were days during the summer where you skipped moisturizer because it felt ‘too heavy.’ We don’t blame you: When you wake up and you’re already sweaty, the urge to stay as dry as possible is tempting. But moisturizer is a good idea year-round, and even more important as the temps drop and the air gets dryer. You may want to shift to using moisturizer in the morning and at night, if you aren’t already doing so. Our quick absorbing Every Day Hydrating Face Moisturizer is packed with certified organic ingredients to fuel your twice daily routine.

Gently exfoliate

Despite the dry weather, you’ll still have a buildup of dead cells on your face, which can cause your skin to look dull. That’s where The American Boxer’s Revitalizing Face Toner comes in. In addition to Vitamin C and Squalane that help even out your skin’s appearance—important when you’re prone to redness from windy days!—it also contains natural exfoliants like Glycolic Acid, one of the best AHAs for gentle exfoliation.

Add a serum

The American Boxer’s Anti-Aging Serum is a powerhouse staple for fall, since it contains hyaluronic acid, which creates a barrier between your skin and the outside world, keeping moisture trapped inside. This barrier can keep skin from getting too wind-blown, so make sure you’re spreading on a light layer of serum as part of your daily routine.

Still use sunscreen

Even though you’ve likely heard this before, it bears repeating: Just because it’s cold out doesn’t mean you should skip sunscreen if you’re out in the sun all day!
